DeAngelo is an intriguing kid, but the size, issues in own end and behavioral stuff put up some red flags. Whoever gets him will get a damned good offensive defenseman, as the kid is skilled as Hell.

What worries me is, in the past, the Flyers have often taken guys with similar pasts and ended up finding them to be too much of a headache & traded them before they could make a positive impact at NHL level.

The ones that come to mind are Steve Downie, Patrick Maroon & Tony Voce. Now, Voce obviously wasn't a great prospect and really had no NHL future, but Downie & Maroon did and the Flyers tired of them and shipped them out. I worry about using a top pick when thats the track record

FWIW, Dreger says Kings do not plan to buy out Mike Richards, however they may well demand he start a better conditioning program this summer

Not really a big fan of small defenseman. But if he's the BPA at the time of the pick, have to go with it.

He's got so many years left on his deal, I understand it -- they'd be paying 11 years on the buyout and would take it in the shorts in 2018 and 2019, when guys like Drew Doughty and Slava Voynov come up again and Pearson and Toffoli, if they develop into Top 6 forwards of merit, are going to be off their ELCs and bridge contracts.

They will have at least one Cup, probably two barring the unforeseen, so no one is shedding too many tears for them, I would assume.

And yes, they could CBO him, but the money you kick out there...not every team wants to cut checks like the Flyers and Rangers did. The Kings are one of those teams who don't like to pay guys to not play.

I remember hearing of reports that he came into flyers camp a little out of shape one year. Guessing there's more to some of those reports with LA saying the same thing.

Wasn't that when Lappy said that Richie had the body of a 12 year old?

Andy Delmore is one of my favorite former Flyers. However, I find it comical that he coaches defense. He really was nothing more than a winger that happened to play defense.

Does anyone have footage of his playoff hat trick against the Pens?

Not being able to do it at an elite level on the ice in real time doesn't mean he can't teach proper theory about the position.

Is Downie really in that mix though? He had his troubles or whatever, but was dealt in a real hockey trade which the Flyers outright won IMO.

True. However it is like Jay Rosehill teaching young players how to be goal scorers.

In his defense, no one makes the NHL without having talent and drive. We can laugh at him but I respect him for that if nothing else.

He is actually one of my favorite Flyers ever. Must be too early for jokes.

Craig Berube is the current head coach :/ Riley Cote is in Allentown waiting in the wings

Edit: I'm kidding around and all that. Internet and subtle humor is hard to portray on both sides

I think he has to be to some degree. Downie was a source of frustration to his coaches here before the trade to Tampa. It was hockey-related frustration. Even so, his ability to pay attention and demonstrate learning was still part of the question marks that dogged him before he turned pro.

As for DeAngelo, he sounds intruguing but I seriously doubt we take him. I think Hextall has different prospects on his mind. I think we take a forward in this class.
